Itawamba County, Mississippi

Frances Sheffield Beene stands beside an Itawamba County, Mississippi highway sign.  Her grandfather, Antonio Madison Sheffield, moved to Texas from Itawamba County, MS in the 1880's.  Coincidentally, Frances Sheffield Beene's husband's family, the household of Obediah Franklin Beene, moved to Texas from Itawamba County, MS in 1884!  Itawamba County is in the northeast corner of Mississippi not far from the state lines of both Tennessee and Alabama.  When Frances told her father that she was going to marry Aaron Obediah Beene, he said that was OK with him.  Those Mississippi Beenes were good people!  This was more than 50 years after both families had left Mississippi!   (Of course, the families had had contacts since then).
