Inez died when only about 2 years old of a lingering fever. The family "White Rose" story is about her. She loved white. All her clothes were white. She wanted everything to be white. She was supposed to have been rather precocious. A neighbor gave her mother some red rose cuttings which Inez helped plant. One was planted under Inez' bedroom window, and she insisted that it would bloom white.
When she died the rose bush actually did bloom a white rose for the one and only time. The rose was buried with her. Her father could not bear to put her in a dark coffin, so he bought white satin and lined the coffin himself.
