Sheffield Deeds

Lumpkin County, Georgia
 
These deeds copied verbatim (as well as possible) and contributed by Deborah Hendrix. Deborah descends from John Sheffield and Hannah (probably Melton) through their son Everitt/Averitt Sheffield (aka Henry Everitt Sheffield) who married Mary Carpenter.

In the first deed below, Rebecca is Everett Sheffield's daughter who married Edward Carnes.

This indenture made this December 29th 1856 in the year of our Lord eighteen
hundred an fifty six between Everet Shuffield of Lumpkin
County and State of Georgia of the one part an Rebecken Cumes
Daughter of the said Everet Shuffield of the same of the other part
Witnesseth that the Said Everet Shuffield of an consideration of
The natuaral love and affection which she has used leaves to his said
Daughter  Rebecken Cumes and forever in consideration of the sum
Of five dollars cash in hand paid by the said Rebecken Cumes receipt
Whereof is hereby acknowledges given granted an does by there presents
Give an grant unto the said Rebecca Cumes her heirs an assigns as part
Of lot of [land No.] So twenty eight lying an being her the first District of
Hambersham now Lumpkin County beginning at the crops Mary on the
No headed Branch running near a South course with the P.S. Patton
Gulf of the South Branch in the reserving two acres on the West side of the Big
Branch then a strate course with the Branch from the old road to the Big
Branch to the original line of the Mountain lot then west to the corner of
John Evans lot then north the original line to the corner of W. B. lantous?

Deborah Hendrix is descended from Henry Shuffield (Sheffield) mentioned in the deed below. Henry is the grandson of Everett/Averitt Sheffield through his son Isham Sheffield who married Mindy Martin. Henry Sheffield married Nancy Berry.

Deed Of Henry Shuffield & Lewis Wehunt

This Indenture made this Eleventh day of October

In the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred & Fifty one
Between Henry Shuffield of the county & state aforesaid of the one part &
Lewis Wehunt  of the same place of the other part witnesseth that the said
Henry Shuffield for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to
him in how paid at an before the sealing & delivery of these the receipt
where of is hereby acknowledges hath granted bargains sold &conveys & does by
these presents Grants Bargain sell& convey unto the Said Lewis Wehunt his
heirs & assigns all these tracts or parcel of law situate situate lying
& being in the county of Lumpkin in the fifth district & first section known
are destinguishe wishes in the plat  of no. 430,431,453 containing 40 acres
each more or less to have & hold said tracts or parcels of law unto him the
said Lewis Wehunt his heirs & assigns together with all & suigular the rights
members & appustenance there of to the same in any manner belonging to his &
there own proper use benefit & behoof for even in fee simple & the said Henry
Shuffield for himself his heirs Executors & administrators the said bargaines
premises unto the said Lewis Wehunt his heirs & assigns will warrant & for
ever defend the right & title there of against themself are against the
claims of all other persons whatever in witness where of the said Henry
Shuffield here unto  set his heirs & seal the day are year above written

Between John Shuffield & Absalom Martin in 1854

This Indenture made & enter into this the first day of November in the year
of our Lord Eighteen hundred & fifty Four between John Shuffield of the
county an state of above written of the first part an Absolom Martin  Martin
Of the said place of the other part witnesseth that the said John Shuffield
for and in consideration of the said one hundred dollars to him in have paid
by the said Absolom Marin an before the sealing & delivering of these
presents the receipt where of is hereby acknowledges hath granted bargain &
sold & by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto Absolom Martin his
hiers & assigns all that tract or lot of said district lying & being in the
fifth district of the first section of originally Cherokee but now Lumpkin
County known & distinguishes in the plat of said district by so Three Hundred
an Eighty five having such other mark yours as the plat represents containing
forty acres more or less to have & to hold the aforesaid bargain premises
unto the said Absolom Martin his hiers assigns with all an singular the
rights titles Members an appentenances there unto belonging to there own
proper use benefit & behoof &the said John Shuffield from himself his heirs
assigns Exceutors and administrators an from all and every other person or
persons claiming an to claim dues and will warrant & forever defined forever
in fee simple in witnesses whereof the said John Shuffield hath  heirs unto
